The concert honors two of Kenny’s mentors; Barbara B Smith, esteemed ethnomusicologist who just celebrated her 100th birthday and William P Malm, foremost academic expert of Japanese music who recently donated a set of instruments which they will use in the concert.

The concert also celebrate’s Kenny’s 45th anniversary of playing taiko.

The Statewide Cultural Extension Program (SCEP), a program of the University of Hawaii Mānoa Outreach College, expands its SCEP Live Online offerings with a fall concert series. On Fridays October 2, 9, 16, and 23, live musical performances by local artists will be streamed for audiences to enjoy in the comfort and safety of their own homes. The free hour-long performances will start at 7:00pm.

The fall concert series is a joint effort between the UH Mānoa Outreach College, UH Mānoa Music Department, the East-West Center Arts Program, and Friends of Manoa Library.

“Give Aloha” is Foodland’s Annual Community Matching Gifts Program. It was created in 1999 to honor Foodland’s founder, Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan to continue his legacy of giving back to the community. Normally donations are accepted ONLY during the month of September but the donation period has been extended to 9 pm, Friday, October 2. Customers can donate up to $249 to their favorite non-profit organization and Foodland will match a portion of your donation. This is a great way to increase the value of your donation.
