The “Gateway” project brings together musicians from both Japan and the United States in a unique instrumentation premiering Endo’s newest work “Gateway.” “Gateway” explores the Japanese concept of ‘ma’ (space, time, interval) with the Western concept of “groove” (being in the “groove,” or “playing in the pocket”). Taiko, vibraphones, shamisen, koto, and percussion are the featured instruments. The tour centers on universities in the south, mid-west and east-coast offering educational opportunities for students to learn about Japanese culture through taiko.<\/p>\n
