“GIVE ALOHA”

Taiko Arts Center, a 501c3 non-profit organization, is participating in Foodland’s “Give Aloha” – a community matching gifts program. From September 1-30, customers can make a donation up to $249 per person per participating Hawaii non-profit organization at Foodland and/or Sack N’ Save check-out counters. Foodland and Western Union will match a portion of your donation which increases the monetary value of your donation. You must use your Mai’ka’i card to make the donation. If you don’t have a Mai’ka’i card, you can easily sign up for one for free. The Mai’ka’i card gives you many discounts on items purchased at Foodland and Sack N Save stores. Donations made without the Mai’ka’i card will NOT be matched. Your donation is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Please help Taiko Arts Center support Taiko by donating today!

Mochi/Manju Fundraiser

TAC is selling mochi and manju from Hilo’s famous Two Ladies Kitchen to raise funds for taiko educational programs, scholarships, creation of new work, and more. Boxes of strawberry mochi and assorted mochi/manju are available. Please buy or help us sell these special treats!

This year, Taiko Arts Center (501c3) – in conjunction with Habilitat (501c3) – is selling CHRISTMAS TREES, WREATHS and DOOR DECORATIONS~!!!

Choose between Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Noble Fir, Wreaths, and Door Charms
All trees are high quality and kept in refrigerated containers until pick up.
Pick up on December 3rd at 6 convenient locations.

All proceeds will be utilized to support TAC’s taiko educational programs including the exciting “Art of Taiko” lecture/demonstration which is presented to schools, libraries, senior homes, correctional facilities, and community organizations. Please help support Taiko Arts Center by purchasing your holiday tree and decorations from Taiko Arts Center.

Ward Center’s “Festival of Giving”

Exclusive store discounts, entertainment, free gift wrapping, and other festivities!

November 4 – 6, 2011

Purchase a $10 event ticket from Taiko Arts Center and receive exclusive store discounts at Ward Center during the “Festival of Giving.” There will be entertainment, free gift wrapping, bag check, and other festivities to enjoy. Taiko Center of the Pacific Youth Group will perform on Saturday, November 5 at 1 pm.

Purchase your “Festival of Giving” tickets from the taiko students and instructors at KCC classes.


2011 Taiko and Sabar Project

Kenny Endo, Kapono Ciotti, and Tirrell McGruder join forces to create a new piece for the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble. Combining taiko with the magic of Western African Sabar drumming.

Supported in part by the Mayor’s Office on Culture and the Arts, this collaboration will premier the new piece in Fall 2011.

All donations are tax deducible to the full extent of the law as TAC is a 501c3 charitable non-profit organization.

The “Give Aloha” code for Taiko Arts Center is #78462. However, the cashier at the check-out counter can easily look up the code number for you so don’t hesitate to ask. The annual “Give Aloha” program was started by Maurice “Sully” Sullivan, founder of Foodland, to donate to charitable organizations that are important to its customers. Kyosuke Suzuki is the principal flute player and lion dancer for the Wakayama Shachu School of Edo Festival and Shrine Music.

Proficient in western woodwinds, piano, shinobue (bamboo transverse flute), nohkan (bamboo flute from Noh theater), and various taiko and percussion instruments, Suzuki is one of Japan’s leading Edo Sato Kagura (festival & shrine music and dance) musicians and lion dancers in the Tokyo style. He is also a graduate of the Japanese National Music University. He has performed worldwide with the Japan Folkloric and throughout France and Belgium with Japan Europalia. He currently teaches at Kaijo Gakuen and the Yomiuri Culture Center in Tokyo, and keeps a busy performing schedule.
